Just when you thought it was safe to talk about a return to normality….. Throughout most of 2021, the stainless steel sector was tracing an upward trajectory as it recovered from the worst excesses of the COVID pandemic. By the turn of the year, however, there were already signs of decelerating demand amid seemingly intractable supply chain difficulties. And then in early 2022, the market was further rocked by runaway nickel prices and suspension of the LME contract, renewed worries about COVID infections in the key Chinese market and a world-worrying conflict in Ukraine. If ever there was a time for caution and for being well-informed about actual and potential developments, it is now.

The upcoming meeting of the BIR Stainless Steel & Special Alloys Committee on May 24, under the chairmanship of Joost van Kleef, Oryx Stainless BV (NLD) will provide you with the very latest views of market experts.

Robin Martin resizedMain speaker will be Robin Martin, Head of Market Development at the London Metal Exchange (GBR). Mr Martin joined the LME in March 2018 and manages Sales, Product Development, Precious, and Client Marketing and Education. His team leads a number of key initiatives that support delivery of the Strategic Pathway and he is a member of the LME Executive Committee. Prior to joining the LME, Mr Martin worked at the World Gold Council for five years leading the organisation’s market infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving the transparency and efficiency of the global gold market.  He was also responsible for the European Investment sector activities of the World Gold Council, leading projects to broaden investor access to gold. Before joining the World Gold Council, he spent over 10 years working at Accenture as a senior management consultant focusing on business strategy and operating model development in the financial services sector. Mr Martin holds master’s degree in International Securities, Investment & Banking from ICMA Centre and an undergraduate first class degree in Management Science & IT from Alliance Manchester Business School.

A subsequent panel discussion with some of the Committee’s board members will allow for attending participants to engage in a lively Q&A debate.

We look forward to seeing you in Barcelona on (22) 23-25 May 2022!
