Everything recyclers need to know about the latest regulatory and policy developments
While the COVID-19 pandemic has been an inevitable distraction for businesses worldwide, they ignore legislative developments at their peril. As recently as early September, BIR was taking part in United Nations-level discussions in its bid to counter the ongoing threat that such well-established operations mechanical operations as shredding, sorting, granulating, and pelletizing, etc. could be declassified as recycling technologies and techniques.
The BIR International Environmental Council’s webinar on 15 October will assess the impact on recyclers of some of the key rules, regulations and policies to have emerged in recent months, and how the world federation and its national associations have responded in defence of the recycling industry’s interests.
Jordi Costa, Technical Secretary at Gremi de Recuperació de Catalunya will give an introduction into his association’s recyclability certification system. His presentation will be followed by BIR Environment and Trade Director Ross Bartley with a review of the UNEP Basel Convention annexes. An update on the EU revision of the waste shipment regulation will then be provided by Julia Blees, Senior Policy Officer at EuRIC, and at the end of the session, there will be a call for information on the new plastic waste listings.
