BIR leadership attends MRAI conference in Delhi and delivers keynote address at AutoExpo 2020
Early February, BIR President Tom Bird and Director General Arnaud Brunet have attended the 7th MRAI Convention in Delhi.
This trip to India was an opportunity to enhance cooperation with local authorities, recycling partners and leaders of BIR member Associations, MRAI and ISRI, as well as meet with BIR members and Ambassadors.
BIR leaders met with Members of the Parliament and Senior Government officials, in particular Mr Arjum Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Public Entreprises and Parliamentary affairs, Government of India, who has demonstrated great support to the recycling industry.
During a meeting organised by MRAI with local and foreign Associations, President Bird made an opening address and emphasized that BIR will continue to closely collaborate with its Associations members and will voice their interest at the supranational level, in its position of Global organisation. Fruitful discussions have also taken place between MRAI and BIR leaders, which will result in enhanced cooperation.
Both President Bird and Director General Brunet took the opportunity to visit Agrawal Metal Works with BIR Ambassador Sudhir Aggarwal. They both were impressed by the size and quality of the copper recycling operations of this family owned business since 1945 and thanked Executive Director Subhash Jain and CEO Deepak Sanghi for their welcome.
Mr. Bird has also been invited by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) to make a keynote address at their International Conference on Recycling & Circular Economy in Automotive Sector during the Delhi AutoExpo 2020.
During this address, Mr. Bird has called for an enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the automotive industry and the recyclers. He has stressed that it is crucial for recyclers to have information about dismantling and material composition of end of life vehicles, and has urged them to consult the recycling industry for design for recycling as well as integrate more recycled content. Mr. Bird showcased concrete examples of how the cooperation between automotive manufacturers and recycling industry can be improved.
Many thanks and congratulations to MRAI President Sanjay Mheta, MRAI leaders and Secretary General Amar Singh for those successful meetings.
